Interview
From Engineering Foundations to Explaining Technology in Plain English
Hamayl•Tech Community Builder, Software Engineer, Data Scientist & Technical Writer
•Rawalpindi, PakistanPlease introduce yourself and describe what you do for work.
My name is Hamayl Shah. I am a Software Engineer and Data Scientist with
a background in Electrical Engineering. I work at the intersection of
engineering, data, and software, and I write technical articles for
global publications to simplify complex topics like AI, Data Science,
and Cloud Computing for developers and students.
How did you get started?
I started my journey through engineering education, where I developed a
strong analytical and systems-thinking mindset. As I explored software
and data science, I realized that many technical concepts were difficult
not because they were impossible, but because they were poorly explained.
That realization pushed me toward technical writing and community
building, where I focus on breaking down complex ideas into clear,
practical explanations.
What is a common misconception that people have about you or your job?
A common misconception is that technical writing is just about simplifying
things too much. In reality, good technical writing requires a deep
understanding of the subject, strong engineering fundamentals, and the
ability to connect theory with real-world applications.
What part of your journey were you unprepared for? What caught you off guard?
I was unprepared for how much consistency matters. Learning advanced
technical skills is one challenge, but consistently creating meaningful
content, building credibility, and earning trust over time requires
discipline, patience, and long-term thinking.
What are you most proud of in your journey so far?
I am most proud of building a clear professional identity that bridges
Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, and Data Science, and of
having my work accepted by well-known technical publications. It
validated that clear thinking and honest learning can create real impact.
What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone who wants to follow a similar path?
Focus on fundamentals before trends. Strong engineering basics, clear
thinking, and the ability to explain what you know will always outlast
any short-term technology hype.
Anything you would like to add?
I believe the future belongs to engineers and creators who can both
build and explain. My goal is to continue learning, writing, and helping
others navigate technology with clarity and confidence.
